This is a beautiful site for Monique Parker's Classic Yoga of India.
Classically, yoga was not a standardized practice. This is because no one practice is ideal for all of us. No two people are alike, nor are their needs for optimum health. For yoga to be the truly spiritual and personal path to self-realization that the ancient seers required it to be, it was approached and practiced in a manner that honors the individuality of the aspirant. It was also regularly adapted to meet the practitioner’s specific changing conditions, needs, and goals.

Classic yoga is a highly individualized system of self-care that views each person as unique. It offers optimal recommendations for enhancing strength, flexibility, structural alignment, proper functioning of body systems, and mental steadiness. As the oldest psychology in the world, its chief aim was and still is the development of habitual one-pointedness—concentrating the mind at will to the exclusion of all else—leading to perpetual peace.

Santosha means contentment in Sanskrit, and is the perfect word to sum up what yoga is all about. We are committed to spreading the gifts of yoga. Practicing yoga is wonderful way to achieve physical and emotional health, relaxation, satisfaction and general contentment though all of life's experiences. Lindsey Johnson & Shira Schreiber (Santosha Yoga of Taos co-founders) met in their Yoga Teacher Training program in San Francisco in 2003 and have been friends ever since. They have spent many, many hours practicing and teaching yoga together. Both feel lucky to have gotten most of their teaching experience in San Francisco, a hub for yoga and alternative health. Their lives took different turns, but coincidentally brought them both to Taos, where their passion for yoga inspired them to take action and make their dream of opening a yoga studio a reality. Lindsey Johnson & Shira Schreiber are serious in their dedication to yoga. They are committed to educating their students in a way that is fun, affordable, satisfying and safe.
