Winery & Spirits

Taos doesn't have its own winery, the links below will take you to the wineries with web sites that dot New Mexico.
Jacona Valley Vineyard is a small family-owned vineyard located 20 miles north of Santa Fe in one of the oldest winemaking regions in North America. It is situated between Pojoaque and San Ildefonso tribal lands in an area once known as the Jacona Land Grant, a 46,000 acre parcel of land granted by the Spanish crown to its settlers in 1702. Jacona Valley Vineyard is planted exclusively in pinot noir vines. This thin-skinned and finicky vinifera grows best in cool climates characterized by relatively short growing seasons. At an elevation of 5,700 feet, Jacona Valley's cool summer nights and brilliantly sunny days provide ideal conditions for growing outstanding pinot noir. Although there is no tasting room at this time, Jacona Valley Vineyard's owners Trey and Blair Naylor invite you to visit their vineyard for tours and purchases in the hope that you will find their wine to be as remarkable as the valley in which it is grown.

Los Luceros Winery in Alcalde is a classic example of the past, present, and future all co-existing in the same space. The winery is located in one of the oldest viticultural sites in North America. Don Juan de Oñate brought settlers to the Los Luceros area in 1598 (over 4 centuries ago!). He reportedly brought grapevines with him, although it's unlikely they were well suited to the cool climate of northern New Mexico. Los Lucero Winery's vineyards supply Seyval blanc, Vidal blanc, Cayuga, and Baco noir. Los Lucero Winery's goal is to make world-class wines from these and other grapes that thrive in this climate. Los Lucero Winery spares no expense to barrel-ferment some white wines in new French oak barrels. They age Their premium Baco noir Reserve in new American oak barrels. The winery building, which is the second straw-bale winery in the country, is of special interest, too. Los Lucero Winery's Proprietors: Bruce and Sue Noel

I worked for them when I lived in NM. The etchings are from small copper plates, and the images are wonderful southwestern moments. The landscape and architecture that is captured, truly a gift from the past.

Great Site! This site has been around for a while. It moved July '08 from a small to a large ISP. The site will undergo a face lift as well as an upgrade to a new engine to 'run' the back end of it.
