After several summer vacations exploring the Southwest Jeanne and her husband decided to relocate to Taos, New Mexico in the fall of 1995. Work with metal began a year later when she was drawn to the traditional art of northern New Mexican tin work. Jeanne is entirely self taught as a tin artist & her diversified art background has been useful - a strong architectural eye is apparent in her work. Jeanne's award winning tin work has been shown in the Santa Fe Museum of Fine Arts, "Taos Invites Taos", The Craft Alliance in St. Louis, MO & at the "Sculpture & Objects of Functional Art" show in Chicago, IL. Her work is in private collections across the US & Japan.

Thom Wheeler moved to Taos in 1985 where he began concentrating on smaller pieces with a feeling for the icons of the West and Southwest - gypsy women faces, crosses, bucking broncos, howling coyotes, cow skulls, and the saguaro cacti. As he said, "You could call this my interpretation of Indian jewelry." He actually calls these works "wall jewelry". Thom Wheeler's materials are highly polished and textured metals such as brass, copper, and aluminum plate set with ivory, wood, cast glass, stag horn, and stone such as turquoise, malachite and jasper. His tools include the band saw, lathe, drill press, shears, kilns, welding machines, buffers, and sanders. Affectionate yet reverent to the Western theme, Thom often titles his work after country western songs as "Don't Fence Me In" and "Cow Cow Boogie". Most recently he's been creating 16" x 16" x 11" tall humidors, which have actually sold more as jewelry boxes. Made of the redwood padauk and Spanish cedar, his metal/stone work panel is set into the entire top of the bordered lid. His work ranges from $300 for a 4" x 12" Sacred Heart Icon to several thousands. The humidors are $2,400. The "Thunderbird Icon" which is 48" x 36" is $4,800. In 1992 Thom Wheeler built his two-story adobe castle, foundry, and gallery at 939 Kit Carson Road where he lives and works today. When asked what the gallery hours are he said "pretty much 9-5, seven days a week, except when I'm not here".

I worked for them when I lived in NM. The etchings are from small copper plates, and the images are wonderful southwestern moments. The landscape and architecture that is captured, truly a gift from the past.

Great Site! This site has been around for a while. It moved July '08 from a small to a large ISP. The site will undergo a face lift as well as an upgrade to a new engine to 'run' the back end of it.

Thanks for including my site, although we are technically south of Taos by 50+ miles in Sapello NM
