Jeff Roller grew up in a large family on the Santa Clara Pueblo Indian Reservation, which is located approximately 30 miles north of Santa Fe, New Mexico along the Rio Grande River and stretches into the Jemez Mountains to the West. He comes from a long line of famous potters and hunters. When you talk about ingrained hunting methods and skills, you might say that Jeff’s family has been hunting these mountains, for thousands of years. Jeff is a very accomplished horseman who trains all his horses himself for hunting and packing out elk and deer. Jeff has been guiding hunts for six years and has approximately a 75% success rate with all of his hunters given at least one opportunity to take an animal during their hunt. All of Jeff’s guides are family and friends from Santa Clara Pueblo and they have all been hunting deer and elk in the Jemez mountains as well as other parts of the state, all their lives. The skills which Jeff and his guides possess to take game, have been handed down generation after generation throughout the ages. Jeff and all of his guides are extremely skilled in finding, calling and stalking into very close proximity with game. Jeff’s native american beliefs about hunting are always prevalent while he hunts and are definitely congruent when guiding hunters. His hunts are conducted in a very respectful and spiritual manner which makes for a special, peaceful and honorable experience for his hunters.
