In the 1800s, few towns had such a reputation for gunplay and violence as Cimarron, New Mexico. Once luridly lawless, today this peaceful town echoes the sights and sounds of its historic past. You can still see ruts of the Santa Fe Trail and our museums and historic buildings offer fun and informative activities. Nearby recreation abounds at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Cimarron offers a colorful history and plenty to do any time of year. The sparkle of trail campfires and the howl of coyotes remind us that the old west and the new west overlap.<br/>

This is a delightful place for anyone who loves the old west. take a journey to the past at "The Ranch of the Swallows". This historic rancho, now a living history museum, dates from the early 1700s and was an important paraje or stopping point along the famous Camino Real, the Royal Road from Mexico City to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Experience the life of another time in a location unlike any other in America. The museum is closed for the winter season, and re-opens in April for docent-guided tours (by appointment) and in June for general admission.

For a lot of Taosenos, one of the 'activities' of Taos, quite naturally, is to go to Mexico, as so many Taosenos do for their vacations. Rancho Encantado , an eco-resort on beautiful, tropical Laguna Bacalar, Quintana Roo, Mexico (near the capital, Chetumal and the border with Belize). Serving individuals, couples, families and groups who seek an alternative to huge resort hotels, Rancho Encantado provides a tropical haven for ecologically-minded, culturally-curious travelers, and for archaeological excursions, birding, lakeside tranquillity and beautiful private casitas.

The famous Santa Fe Opera is one of the great nights out that you can have around here. One feels sort of regal there, this reporter thinks. (J.R.) This is one of the little wonder theaters of the world. It's just so cool to be inside what they built there..., and if there's some great opera, well, that's even better. Spend the extra to go early and have the dinner. Very fine.

I worked for them when I lived in NM. The etchings are from small copper plates, and the images are wonderful southwestern moments. The landscape and architecture that is captured, truly a gift from the past.

Great Site! This site has been around for a while. It moved July '08 from a small to a large ISP. The site will undergo a face lift as well as an upgrade to a new engine to 'run' the back end of it.
