Constructed in 1918 by ranchers Charles and Frank Springer for irrigation Eagle Nest Lake offers anglers excellent oppertunities for Rainbow Trout and Kokanee Salmon fishing. This 2200 acre lake is situated in high country Moreno Valley New Mexico adjacent to the village of Eagle Nest. Only 15 minutes away is the ski and golf resort of Angel Fire, 30 minutes to Red River and 45 minutes from Taos and Taos Pueblo. Anglers fishing the lake in July and August will enjoy a welcome releif from the summers heat in the flat lands of neighboring Oklahoma and Texas. Regular vistors to the area are very familiar with the wabundance of wildlife the area is noted for. This is a delightful place for anyone who loves the old west. take a journey to the past at "The Ranch of the Swallows". This historic rancho, now a living history museum, dates from the early 1700s and was an important paraje or stopping point along the famous Camino Real, the Royal Road from Mexico City to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Experience the life of another time in a location unlike any other in America. The museum is closed for the winter season, and re-opens in April for docent-guided tours (by appointment) and in June for general admission.

El Valle Astronomers are a non-profit group in Northern New Mexico. El Valle Astronomers have monthly star parties in Taos and El Rito and special events such as eclipses, meteor showers, and potlucks. El Valle Astronomers are currently building a 32" Dobson telescope. When completed this telescope will be the largest private portable telescope in New Mexico.
